What to pack and when to leave when fire danger is high.
Make a bushfire survival plan before the season starts, and decide which fire danger rating will make you leave. The NSW RFS suggests leaving bushfire risk areas on Extreme or Catastrophic days, and on Catastrophic days going the night before or early in the morning.
Check ratings and warnings with your state or territory fire service. That's the NSW RFS, CFA in Victoria, Queensland Fire Department, CFS in South Australia, DFES in WA, Tasmania Fire Service, the ACT Emergency Services Agency or NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services. If lives are at risk, call Triple Zero (000).
